Best PracticesAlberta Network for Mental Health Fellowship - Best Practices

  • We are voluntary. Our belief is that belonging to the consumer movement is about service. A commitment from our heart is essential to health in our community.
  • Reaching out to our fellow mental health consumers, sponsoring and leading self help groups and assistance with peer support efforts (helping a consumer out with a chore, tasks or appointment they find hard).
  • 12 Step groups.
  • Clearinghouse for information and referral.
  • Belonging to alliances and coalitions that give mental health consumers a voice in the system of mental health service delivery.
  • Leadership training for consumers; one on one assistance to mental health consumers.
  • Partnering in projects with the government and the academic community where we participate in international projects, mental health promotion and provide practicum opportunities to students from a variety of accredited educational institutions.
  • One on one help for people to get their forms filled out and be informed about their resources.
  • Ongoing training and support for our staff and volunteers.
  • Developing working relationships with government and the mental health system to create real system reform.
